Starting Friday, February 28, 2025, Maui Ocean Center will launch its new monthly public sleepover program, “Sleep in the Deep,” designed for children aged 7 to 12 and their chaperones. This program offers a unique opportunity to spend the night immersed in the marine environment of the 750,000-gallon Open Ocean exhibit.

The sleepover experience includes a bedtime movie in the Makai Theater with local snacks, followed by a night under the watchful eyes of sharks and other marine life. The next morning, participants will enjoy a continental breakfast and a private 3D viewing of the “Humpbacks of Hawai‘i” film, providing an educational insight into the local humpback whale population.

Tiara Fernandez, the Education Director at Maui Ocean Center, expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating, “We’re excited to bring back our enhanced sleepover experience, which celebrates our island’s marine heritage. Activities will include a scavenger hunt inspired by Maui’s legends and craft projects reflecting our local culture. In the morning, guests will engage with a diver to learn about marine feeding habits and visit our coral nursery, home to rare Hawaiian corals.”

Bookings for public sleepovers must be made at least two weeks in advance. The scheduled dates for 2025 are: March 28, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 17, November 21, and December 12. Private sleepovers require a 30-day advance booking.

Participants will receive a hand stamp in the morning, allowing them free admission to explore Maui Ocean Center throughout the day, extending the educational adventure.
