Reviews from Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman Wailea Maui Happy Hour

“We had a reservation which is a must here, and visited the restaurant at 3:45 PM for happy hour. We tried the famous Monkeypod Mai Tai and it was delicious. In addition to the Mai Tai we also tried the ‘Three Dogs and a Cat,’ but it was just okay and the Mai Tai was our favorite. From the happy hour menu we ordered roasted chicken 🍗 wings, Parmesan truffle fries 🍟 , and the mushroom and truffle pizza 🍕 and all the food was quite tasty. For dessert, we ordered the Coconut 🥥 Cream pie 🥧 , which was just okay. I would definitely recommend visiting Monkeypod Wailea during happy hour and making reservations well in advance.”

“My wife and I went to Monkeypod for happy hour and ended up returning 2 more times throughout our stay on Maui. We were fortunate to get Bill as our server on 2 occasions who was AWESOME. He provided great service and was very knowledgeable and just a pleasure to engage with. The food was incredibly delicious and so well executed! The chicken wings were a mouthwatering appetizer and the burgers was one of the best I’ve had. Also, their Mai Tai lives up to all the hype. Thanks for a great experience, Bill!”

Korey C., February 2024

“Best happy hour on Maui, but be careful of the Mai-tais. They’ll sneak up on you 😀”

Chris S., March 2023

Happy hour at the bar was what we were looking for and not disappointed. Mai tai was very good and shared Kalua pork and pineapple pizza and fish and chips (mahi mahi). Both were good and Morgan the bartender who waited on us was lovely. Pricey, yes. Worth is, yes.”

Deborah L., March 2023

“We went for happy hour. They have one of the best happy hours on the island. Make a reservation and sit at the bar! Service is quick and efficient. If you enjoy cocktails, the Mai Tai is always a winner. It’s strong, beware 🙂 Other drinks we tried and loved- Three Dogs and A Cat and the Nightwalker.

I love that these are not your typical tropical drinks and they aren’t overly sweet. For food we had the roasted chicken wings. The wings were so flavorful and the dipping sauce was amazing. My husband had the ahi poke tacos. It’s like sushi in a fried taco shell. So good! I had the fresh fish tacos. It was grilled Mahi and so flavorful. I could live without the margherita pizza, but it served its purpose.

Our bartenders were fantastic! If you don’t have a reservation, expect a wait.”

Alicia F., March 2023

“Had to come for the Mai Tai and it was just as good as I expected. Food was great too!”

Jennifer C., February 2022

“The Mai Tai was worth the wait. Make sure to reserve weeks in advance to avoid waiting.”

Sharon R., February 2022

“Fantastic evening dinner! The service was amazing! I had the macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi and it was probably the best fish I’ve ever had. Caught locally and served fresh. On a Tuesday night there was a 30 minute wait and you have to show vaccination card.”

John O., February 2022

“I started following this place for their gorgeous looking Mai Tai. Finally got to visit for lunch. The cocktails did not disappoint, and the food was spectacular as well.

We sat at the bar, our bartender was friendly and service was efficient. Do not sleep on this place if you get the opportunity to see Maui. We are huge wing lovers and theirs were great. The banana cream pie is bonkers. Just look at the pics!”

Sarah B., January 2022

“Fantastic as always. Got our group of 8 seated quickly without a reservation on a busy night in Wailea. Jalapeño mashed potatoes. Need I say more?”

Mike T., January 2022

“The wait was very long but it was worth it. The service was great and the food was hands down the best I’ve had on the island. We ordered the Pete’s fresh fish and tacos, kalula pork and pineapple pizza. The Mai Tai cocktail was very good the best on the island. So delicious! We devoured it all.”

Laura S., January 2022

“Came here while visiting some friends on Maui. They hyped the place up and it did not disappoint. Mac nut crusted mahi was delicious and so was my mai tai. All the bites I couldn’t help but sample from the table were also fantastic. The atmosphere is modern and spacious with live music playing nearby. A bit pricier than our other stops on the trip but well worth it.”

Roshi R., January 2022

  5. We just updated the happy hour info for Monkeypod Wailea Maui so I can vouch that not only is this happy hour AMAZING but it is also 100% accurate as of today (April 30, 2019.) I’d like to mention that Monkeypod often has multiple live music acts a day and the view here is phenomenal. Maui locals know this as the place to get the best handcrafted Mai Tai on the island. Cheers!
