The Doobie Brothers – Lahaina (feat. Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, & Henry Kapono) Official Video

The Doobie Brothers, a renowned rock group known for their four GRAMMY Awards and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, today released a new single, “Lahaina.” This release, their first since the 2021 album “Liberté,” includes a music video designed to support and show unity with Maui following the tragic wildfires of August 2023.

The band collaborated with notable musicians Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono for this meaningful project. Aimed at bringing hope to those impacted and honoring the town’s resilience, the release of “Lahaina” is a heartfelt gesture from the group to the Maui community.

The connection between The Doobie Brothers and Maui, as well as with Mick Fleetwood, is rooted in personal ties to the island of Maui. Members of The Doobie Brothers, Pat Simmons and Michael McDonald, both own homes in Maui, which establishes their personal connection to the island. This personal connection is further highlighted in their efforts to use their music to support those affected by the wildfires in Maui.

Mick Fleetwood, a rock and roll icon, also has a deep connection to Maui. He is a fellow resident of the island, and his involvement in the track “Lahaina” by The Doobie Brothers is a testament to this bond. Tragically, his restaurant on the island was one of the casualties of the wildfires, adding a personal dimension to his participation in this project.

These connections underscore the meaningful collaboration between The Doobie Brothers and Mick Fleetwood in their joint effort to support Maui through their music, particularly in the wake of the devastating wildfires.

Song Lyrics – The Doobie Brothers – Lahaina (feat. Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, & Henry Kapono)

It Calls To Me, Lahaina
A beautiful dream I’m tryin’ to remember

Underneath the banyan tree our love will live forever

Spirits everywhere they whisper in the wind
Waves that kiss the shore at night are calling us again
It calls to me Lahaina

Carry me back home It’s calling me Lahaina

Carry me home Where I belong
Deep roots of the banyan tree growing in the sand
Are strong like the people of the island
These sacred waters are the healing hands of love
That brought us here at last and they call us home again
It calls to me Lahaina

Carry me back home It’s calling me

Lahaina Carry me home

Where I belong

  1. I’m proud, blessed and honored to call Maui my home. Our community stands strong as we live with aloha even after such devastation to our little island. The creation of this song makes my heart sing. Mahalo for such a great collaboration of talent. I know myself and many others will listen and enjoy this this song for years to come. Mahalo Nui Loa!!

  2. i live upcountry, where fires burned homes on a smaller – but still gut-wrenching – scale. When I heard that Lahaina was… gone… I was shocked to my core. I instantly felt an emptiness, a void that will never be filled. However, the Maui community has risen up to comfort, support, and rebuild with those who lost SO much. Now is the time to put aside our personal agendas, and trust our hearts to beat together in the spirit of Aloha, and do – together – what is Pono.

  3. Nice song… Here’s another: Maui Strong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM7uDa1e5-k — it is a song of support and an anthem for the people of Maui and their Ohana, represented by the Banyan Tree in Lahaina, in the wake of the 2023 Maui Fire… This is a call for a Hawaiian recording artist to re-record the “Maui Strong” song to use as a fundraiser for the Maui Strong Fund (of the Hawaii Community Foundation) and/or other appropriate charity… Interested artists should contact: kximyu@outlook.com For info on the Maui Strong Fund, see: http://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/strengthening/maui-strong-fund

What a beautiful tribute! My wife and daughter and I have spent many wonderful hours on Front Street and the many beautiful areas of Maui over the last few years. We will forever carry those times in our hearts and memories. Stay strong Lahaina we pray for you and hope you return to your original glory in the future.
