Duke’s Beach House: A Culinary Tribute to a Hawaiian Legend in Ka’anapali, Maui
Nestled on the north end of world-famous Ka’anapali Beach, Maui, Duke’s Beach House is not just a restaurant, but a celebration of Duke Kahanamoku’s legacy. This beachfront establishment, located within the Honua Kai Resort and Spa at 130 Kai Malina Parkway, Lahaina, HI 96761, offers stunning ocean views and a vibrant atmosphere.
Duke Kahanamoku, known as “Hawaii’s Favorite Son,” was an Olympic athlete and the father of modern-day surfing. Born and raised in Honolulu, he spent his days swimming, surfing, canoeing, and bodysurfing along the shores of Waikiki. His remarkable speed in water, good humor, and sportsmanship, along with his “Kahanamoku Kick” swimming technique, made him a global icon. He was the first person inducted into both the Surfing and Swimming Hall of Fame.
Duke’s Beach House, which opened in 2009, is adorned with cultural artifacts, including photos of Duke, lei pieces, vintage surfboards, and an outrigger canoe. This decor, along with the Hawaiian-influenced cuisine focusing on fresh, sustainable seafood and premium steaks, captures the essence of Hawaiian culture and Duke’s spirit.
The restaurant offers daily live music from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, enhancing the already inviting atmosphere. Operating from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm daily, it’s a favorite for both locals and visitors, perfect for special occasions or casual outings.
The story of Duke’s Beach House in Maui is intertwined with the broader history of the Duke’s restaurant brand, which began in 1989 in Kauai and expanded due to its popularity. Today, there are six locations, each offering open-air oceanfront dining, fun atmospheres, and delicious food.
Reviews from Duke’s Beach House Maui
“Amazing place to eat and relax. Right near the beach and excellent views of the sunset! Food is so delicious and you have to have a Hula Pie! The Lava Flow drinks were so delicious and the fresh Mai Mai fish was the best. Highly recommend this place! Mahalo!”William R., November 2023
“Great place right on the beach! The food was good and quick. The cocktail was great and funnily enough called the “Jake on the Beach”.Jake K., November 2023
“We didn’t have reservations so we sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and very friendly. Both of our drinks and meals were tasty 😋”Chris K., November 2023

“Mai tai, coconut shrimp, hula pie. It doesn’t get any better than that!”Tom L., November 2023
“Big shout out for dinner tonight. I enjoyed the seafood risotto and added a lobster tail. The live music @pahele kept the vibe going all night. Our server Hannah was also excellent. Hope we get one more meal here before we head home.”Terese P., November 2023
“My wife and I arrived about 430p, and there was a 45 m to 1 hour wait. We got lucky in getting a table by the bar in a short wait. Sam was our server, and he was great in being very attentive, our water was kept full, and always then when needed. The food was very good with the Hula pie, that they are known for, for dessert. A great location with the combo of dessert and sunset.”Lynn R., October 2023
“Fish tacos were some of the best I had on the island. Staff is friendly and even if there’s a wait, they have a few tables and bar seating that’s first come first serve.”Scott J., October 2023
