Nestled on the north end of world-famous Ka’anapali Beach, Maui, Duke’s Beach House is not just a restaurant, but a celebration of Duke Kahanamoku’s legacy. This beachfront establishment, located within the Honua Kai Resort and Spa at 130 Kai Malina Parkway, Lahaina, HI 96761, offers stunning ocean views and a vibrant atmosphere.
Duke Kahanamoku, known as “Hawaii’s Favorite Son,” was an Olympic athlete and the father of modern-day surfing. Born and raised in Honolulu, he spent his days swimming, surfing, canoeing, and bodysurfing along the shores of Waikiki. His remarkable speed in water, good humor, and sportsmanship, along with his “Kahanamoku Kick” swimming technique, made him a global icon. He was the first person inducted into both the Surfing and Swimming Hall of Fame.
Duke’s Beach House, which opened in 2009, is adorned with cultural artifacts, including photos of Duke, lei pieces, vintage surfboards, and an outrigger canoe. This decor, along with the Hawaiian-influenced cuisine focusing on fresh, sustainable seafood and premium steaks, captures the essence of Hawaiian culture and Duke’s spirit.
The restaurant offers daily live music from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, enhancing the already inviting atmosphere. Operating from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm daily, it’s a favorite for both locals and visitors, perfect for special occasions or casual outings.
The story of Duke’s Beach House in Maui is intertwined with the broader history of the Duke’s restaurant brand, which began in 1989 in Kauai and expanded due to its popularity. Today, there are six locations, each offering open-air oceanfront dining, fun atmospheres, and delicious food.

“My wife and I arrived about 430p, and there was a 45 m to 1 hour wait. We got lucky in getting a table by the bar in a short wait. Sam was our server, and he was great in being very attentive, our water was kept full, and always then when needed. The food was very good with the Hula pie, that they are known for, for dessert. A great location with the combo of dessert and sunset.”
