At Izakaya GENBE of Maui, we want you to know the wonderful Japanese food culture and cuisine. And I want to see your best smile. So we give you the best “OMOTENASHI”. Izakaya GENBE is located in Kihei, Maui, HI at the Azeka Shopping Center on the makai side (ocean side) of South Kihei Rd.
According to these Izakaya GENBE diners:
“Bruh. I’m leaving a review because it was That good. Ordered the Donkatsu ramen (honestly i’m from LA/OC and this was the best ramen I’ve had) plus karage along with 2 orders of the sake sampler 3 * 2 (6 different sakes – 3 dry and 3 sweet), a large bottle of saporro and a Diet Coke. I literally am a better person after having consumed all this after hiking and beaching it all day. Do it!”Eugene K., November 2021
“By far this was the best place I could dine in. The cha-shu pork tasted like it was grilled over a wood fire and lit by the sun, the sashimi is as fresh as the breeze, and the tonkatsu is as warm wholesome as the ocean water. Don’t expect to come get sushi. Tt’s a very private dining experience best suited for a couple or an individual.”Akemy F., October 2021
“THIS PLACE IS REALLY AMAZING. The food quality is phenomenal. as a native Japanese, I had been having hard time finding really good authentic Japanese food in the States, but this place blew my mind. So authentic and even better than restaurants in Japan. I would love to go there everyday if I lived here.”Shun K., September 2021
“If you’re looking to get away from touristy food on Maui and want something incredible, head to Izakaya Genbe. We were very impressed with the quality and selection of their sashimi. The uni shooters are a must-get.
Ama-ebi is great, unfortunately, they don’t deep-fry the head for you even if you ask. If you add udon noodles to the sukiyaki, after you’re done with the first portion they take the same pot and cook the udon in the same broth.
5/5 for the food and friendly servers. Would recommend trying to go early to beat the lunch or dinner rush as indoor seating is semi-small.”Irving K., August 2021
“Great place to come have Japanese food, especially during happy hour. It’s an izakaya…Japanese pub style eatery and as authentic as you can get outside of Japan. They are not a sushi restaurant but do have tuna and salmon sashimi.
I highly recommend the takowasabi, chicken kaarage, assorted tempura, pork belly, ramen, pretty much anything on their menu. Whisky highballs are perfect for the Hawaiian heat. If you prefer something sweeter, try the plum wine with sparkling water.
Seating is still limited so call ahead and reserve a spot. It’s the closest we can get to a Japanese dining experience. Really kind and nice host. Great food. My wife and I ended up eating here a total of three times in the week we were in Maui. It’s that good!”Tanford N., June 2021
