About Haleakava Kava Bar: Haleakava in Kihei is Maui’s newest kava bar, conveniently located on South Kihei Rd just steps from popular Kalama Park, beaches, and nearby shopping and dining.

So what is kava exactly? According to WebMD (source), kava is a beverage or extract that is made from Piper methysticum, a plant native to Hawaii and the western Pacific islands.

The name “kava” comes from the Polynesian word “awa,” which means bitter.

Kava is thought to relieve pain, enhance mood, and relax muscles, and kava has been used to treat a number of conditions including anxiety, stress, trouble sleeping, pre-menstrual syndrome, and others.

Haleakava offers a variety of kava beverages and teas in a charming, comfortable atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating available. They offer live music and weekly events such as Karaoke Night.

And since they don’t sell food there, it’s good to know that Haleakava shares the area with South Maui Fish Company, a popular local food truck that was recently featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”.
